"I really don't find it a political
argument. It's about equality of opportunity. You know you don't expect
everyone to be as educated as everyone else or have the same achievements but
you expect at least to be offered at least some of the opportunities and
libraries are the most simple and the most open way to give people access to books.
Libraries are vital to every society in every
culture. They don't discriminate. They don't care if you are rich or poor, well
read or can't read a word. Saving libraries is about more than
waiting until the local council decides on cuts. Saving libraries is making
sure the public recognise they should use the resources before they are threatened."
