British consumers are buying more electronic books than hardback books for the first time, Amazonsaid today.
The firm revealed that in the US ebooks have outstripped all printed books and, in the UK, Amazon now sells 242 ebooks for every 100 hardbacks.
Gordon Willoughby, European director at Kindle, said: "This is truly astonishing when you consider that we've been selling hardcover books from Amazon.co.uk for over 13 years and Kindle books for only nine months."
