The Polish eBook market has seen sizable growth from a very small beginning. Only year ago, there were only 1 thousand or so eBooks available in Polish. Current estimates place the total at around 8 thousand titles, most of which are available through Empik.com, a Polish web retailer.
There’s also a growing movement to digitize public domain titles, with about 2, 600 having been scanned and OCRed in the past year.
Unfortunately, most eBooks in Poland are not in Epub format; PDF still dominates. Also, eBook prices are only about 10% of a comparable print edition, and that’s becuase eBooks are taxed as software, not books, which have a lower tax rate.
